Botox® and Facial Aesthetics Center in Houston uses Botox® treatment to smooth out facial lines and wrinkles.
Botox® comes from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin and it is able to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. This procedure has been used to reduce and remove worry and frown lines, laugh lines, and other wrinkles called dynamic wrinkles.
Botox® works by injecting botulinum toxin in extremely small concentrations into the body. It then stops the signals from the nerve cells reaching muscles, leaving the muscles without instructions to contract, consequently leaving them paralyzed.
The Botox® procedure begins with diluting the botulinum toxin powder in saline and then injecting it into the neuromuscular tissue. The botulinum toxin takes approximately 24-72 hours to take effect, while the toxin disrupts the synaptosomal process. There are no sedatives or local anesthesia used because the needle and portions inserted into the skin are so small. There is very little pain and minimal discomfort associated with Botox® and because there are no sedatives or anesthetics used the patient can resume to normal activities immediately after the procedure.
The total treatment will take approximately 3 to 8 days to take effect and the results will last about 3 months.
